New Header!!

One thing off the list...
With Sam asleep curled up on my lap right now I manged to get this little header made and uploaded.
I'm not 100% on all the images but it works for now, and with the template I made I can easily change the photos whenever I want!
Three cheers for nap time!...quietly though, I still have stuff to do and the productivity level goes way down when Sam's awake.

high five!!

WIP Wednesday

No sewing projects on the go for today... my work in progress today is my blog.
I'm thinking that I need an overhaul... my blog I mean, not me. Though I probably could use a bit of a spruce up.
I've noticed lately that my posts are either sewing projects or my snapshot sunday pics.  Somewhere along the line I lost the variety.

I've been a little uninspired lately and thought maybe tidying things up here would kick start my creativity.
So on the to do list... design a new header,  maybe add some colour to my layout, post more regularly, come up with some new ideas for posts, maybe start posting some of my other crafty projects... the list goes on.

I'm hoping today will be the start of more awesomeness around here! Stay tuned... semi related news, today is my one year blogiversary! Hurray!

So to thank all of you who read my little blog, (and also as a shameless effort to increase my viewers), I'm offering up this little gift ...

10 fat quarters in one of my favourite colour combinations, grey and green!
(my apologies for the shoddy photo, it's quite difficult to take photo's with a 15 month old dangling off your leg)

1) Leave a comment below
2) Become a follower and leave a second comment
3)  Get a friend to follow me, then ... you guessed it, come on back and let me know!
Giveaway now over, stay tuned for the winner!
International entries are welcome! I will randomly select and post the winner on May 4th, please make sure you email is visible in your profile or displayed in your comment.
Good Luck!

Snapshot Sunday

I chose weathered for this weeks word based solely on this set of stairs that Sam and I pass by everyday on our way to my mom's.

I love everything about these stairs, the colour, the wood beneath the paint, and especially the patina. It has just the perfect amount of wear.
I can honestly say, I have no idea what the rest of this house looks like, but the stairs are just perfect.

And so is this bench...

For all the reasons that I love the stairs, the same can be said for this bench. Especially the colour! I love the colour!
And what are the odds of The Smashing Miss Marvelous and I taking pictures of something so similar in colour!?

WIP Wednesday

Quick post tonight...
I have a few projects on the go right now but most need to be kept secret. I do have one though that I can share a couple of in progress shots of.

Another quilt, this one for my mom for mothers day. Fingers crossed it gets finished on time.

Sorry for the rubbish photo... it rained all day today so the lighting was horrible.

I'm using two charm packs of Heather Bailey's Nicey Jane line and some Kona in Sky.
I stitched the top half of the quilt first then mirrored it for the bottom, hopefully I'll be able to get the rest stitched up tomorrow.

I've chosen Picnic Bouquet in Gold for the backing and Welcome Road in Sky for the binding, both from the Nicey Jane line as well.

This one seems to be coming together quite quickly, maybe I will have it done in time for mothers day!
Though I probably just jinxed it.

Goodnight all!

Snapshot Sunday!

So "fresh" was the word of the week this time around. Strawberries were the first thing I thought of, and while I'm not entirely sure how "fresh" my strawberries actually were, they looked great and tasted even better!

It would seem that The Smashing Miss Marvelous had food on the brain
as well, and came up with this.

Yum! And the freshness is guaranteed, she made them herself for Snapshot Sunday!
Great macro Tan!
Now send me some cookies!!

Stay tuned for next weeks word...weathered!

Handmade Gifts...

I try to give only handmade gifts, or at least one handmade gift with store bought gifts. Now during busy season, i.e. Christmas, this leads to many sleepless nights as well as a great deal of stress, (I have time management issues.) But when I have only one person to worry about I tend to do better.

Case in point... my little sisters birthday. I had planned on just making her a nice throw size quilt using some of Amy Butlers Soul Blossom line. There were skeptics out there that didn't think it would be finished on time... myself among them. But not only did i get it finished i was also able to make her some cute little gifts for her kitchen!

So on with the pics... quilt first.

I went with a simple brick path layout, and just stitched in the ditch to leave the focus on the fabric.

For the back my sister wanted a single fabric so we decided on Dancing Paisley in limestone.

I used Peacock Feathers in sea glass for the binding...

And finished everything off with a little embroidered A on the front.

I'm quite happy with the results and my sister loves it! Not bad for my second quilt!

The other little gifts I made using Filigree Deco Plants in teal.
I started with a cover for her Kobo reader...

which I also monogrammed for her... cause I'm awesome like that.

Unfortunately it looks like I embroidered it while wearing an eye patch
and being attacked by satanic gophers.
But it's the thought that counts right?

After making the Kobo cover I had some fabric left over and thought,
"Hey, maybe I'll make some coasters for her kitchen". So I did.
I then thought, "Well I can't just give coasters... hmm, I'll make some matching pot holders!".
Then I thought, "Well this isn't right, it needs something else... tea towel!"
Perfect, and a great excuse for me to make more hexies...

They turned out rather well if I do say so myself, now on to the next project... Easter basket for Sam!

WIP Wednesday

Not much on the go right now that I can show, so this is going to be a quick post today...

I've started sewing together the Amy Butler HST quilt and it's going okay.

Now by okay what I really mean is that I haven't had to remove too many stitches, or misplaced blocks and for the most part things seem to be lining up. For now.

The whole process started with this stack of 5 inch squares...

Then they got stitched to equal size white squares, half square triangle style...

A lot of thread snipping, and now the fun begins, planning the layout.
This was my first layout, I got two rows in and decided that i didn't like it...

So I tried this...

And loved it. I had originally planned on just randomly arranging the blocks but the further along I got it started making me itch. I don't do random very well. So that's when I decided to place them according to colour. I love it.

The sewing together part is almost finished...

I'm almost finished sewing the top...maybe tomorrow.
We'll see, stay tuned...

Snapshot Sundays...

So this weeks word as chosen by me was monochromatic.
This one was a tough one for me... I had all sorts of ideas of what I wanted to do but nothing seemed to turn out the way I envisioned. So after a week if taking rubbish photos I'm left with this...

...a bad shot of one of my paintings, yes it's monochromatic, but not a very artistic photo. This one's a fail for me. Hopefully next week's better.

And here's what The Smashing Miss Marvelous has come up with...

Fantastic! Now this is what I was hoping to get.

I mean that top photo is Miss Marvelous's and this one is mine... yeah, this one's mine.

Well, off to start on next weeks word...

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Birthday Love!

Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to my little sister Allison,
Happy birthday to you!

All the best to my baby sis today on her 32nd birthday!
I love you!

WIP Wednesdays

So I've decided to start another new weekly feature...
Work In Progress Wednesdays, "WIP Wednesdays"
My goal with this is to hopefully keep on top of the projects that I start, so that they get finished...on time.
And again, to keep me posting on a regular basis.

So I guess I'll start with some sewing projects that I have on the go.
I currently have two baby quilts on the go, the baby city blocks one that I posted about here ... which I'm now embroidering the alphabet on.

I've finished all the turquoise letters, now just need to do the red and yellow.
I love the simplicity of the font and the basic back stitch I used... it seems very childlike to me.

And one for my friend Matt and his wife Jen. I'm using the My Happy Nursery Line from Cloud9.

The Cloud9 fabrics are amazing and I'm loving working with them... I already have another quilt in mind for the leftover fabric from this quilt... hopefully I'll get started on that soon.
The top has been stitched and I'm pretty happy with the results.

I've also been working away on two lap size quilts using some of Amy Butlers new Soul Blossoms line. I bought this stack...

...a while ago to make a quilt for my little sis for her birthday (I'll post photos of that next week after her birthday) and had enough left over to make this quilt top.

This is my first attempt at an HST quilt and while I really enjoyed laying it out, I've just started the sewing and the perfectionist in me is having kittens... it would seem that not all of my cuts were as accurate as they should have been... I'm hoping to sell this one so I hope it comes together nicely in the end.
Lastly, I've been stitching up this little guy...

From the book Last Minute Patchwork and Quilted Gifts. I fussy cut a vintage sheet for his body and used some Amy Butler scraps for his ears...which may or may not get sewn on.
This is my first attempt at a stuffed animal and it looks like it's been stitched together by a blind weasel that has rabies. Nothing lined up, it looks like it's drunk... and the sewing was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. I'm debating on whether or not I should even bother putting his ears on or take him apart and start over again.
This was a test project...I'm hoping to make one in grey cord to go with the My Happy Nursery quilt,  as part of the shower gift. I guess I should try again.

Well, I guess that's it for the sewing projects I have on the go right now... I'm itching to start another project but I think I should maybe finish at least one of these first... we'll see.

My Birthday...

My most loyal subjects, my birthday is fast approaching and...

no, no... please, remain in your seats. I completely understand your need to show your devotion to me by rising with applause.
It's completely unnecessary.

okay... if you must, but only for a couple minutes.

As I was saying, my birthday is fast approaching, and I would like to take this opportunity to share with you the gifts I think appropriate for this momentous day.

Shall we begin...

Gift # 1...

Practical... because it will hide all the little finger prints and "kisses" that Sam seems to get all over the top of my netbook...
And stylish... Kofie is one of my favourite graffiti artist, need I say more.

Gift # 2

I know, I know... a toaster for my birthday? But we need one, ours works fine but only toasts two slices.
This one is only to be bought if it's on sale... right now it's on for $29.97... don't pay $49.99 for it.

Gift # 3 is really three sewing related gifts...

Some much needed feet for my sewing machine... can be found here and here.
And a Fons and Porter design wall that can be found here.

Two last gifts... the first is not going to happen but I would like it...

Not my usual style of fabric but I just love this line... I think it would make a gorgeous summer quilt. Unfortunately it's not available until July... I guess I'll just save my pennies for this.

Last and certainly not least...

Maybe someone could come with me to Greenwood Quiltery and buy me lots of fabric??

Thank you, that is all... You have two weeks to go and get me the perfect gift... oh and please don't buy me a toaster for my birthday...  I must be mental... a toaster for my birthday? really?

Snapshot Sundays

When I am not working, sewing, crafting, chasing after Sam or being extraordinarily awesome, I've been learning to use my camera properly, in the hopes that it will help with my picture taking skills.
So to help with that, I have a new project.
You know, to fill all that free time that I have...
...stop rolling your eyes.

I've started a little photo project with the Smashing Miss Marvelous...
...aka my big sis.

Each week one of us will choose the "word of the week", then we each go out that week and take a picture that we think invokes the feeling of that word, or best portrays that word. Then every Sunday we post both pictures on our blogs, with explanation or without.

We're both hoping that this little project will help to improve our photography skills (not that she needs any help with hers.) As well as getting us both in the habit of posting on a more regular basis.

So without further ado... last weeks word as chosen by Miss Marvelous...

And our pics!!

With the three inches of fresh snow there, it would seem that spring is a long way off,
but I think her photo is a great representation of spring.

And now my snap of  spring...

Some pretty little crocuses?...croci? taken on a sunny walk with Sam.

And I guess that's it for Snapshot Sundays.
Stayed tuned for next weeks snapshot...
