When bunting goes bad...

Sorry for the delay on Sam's party pics, been busy with some other crafty things... more on that later.

Well without further ado... here come the pics...

No I didn't take this picture in a mirror.
This was the first Happy Birthday bunting I made... as you can see there was a little bit of an error in the layout process. Still not really sure how I managed to mess up both words, yes they are two separate banners, but I did get them fixed and they looked great, then forgot to take a picture...

A shot of the pom pom garland I made.

 Gifts from mom and dad.

 The dessert table...
Chocolate fudge cupcakes with milk chocolate frosting and little
woodland cupcake stick thingies made by me.

Acorn shaped brownies... and banana cake with chocolate butter-cream frosting.

 Rice Krispie squares...

And carrot raisin mini cupcakes with cream cheese icing...
We also had really cute woodland animal sugar cookies that somehow managed to dodge the camera.
 Sam opening gifts...

Then deciding that eating the ribbon is more fun.

Apparently eating the wrap is good too.

I'll just read the card while you have a snack...

Down to business... opening the Lemony Snickett series from mom and dad.

And finally... getting some cake!!

You'll notice that I failed to post a pic of the cake...
It was delicious, but not so attractive.
I made a yummy banana cake (my first from scratch) with a chocolate mini cake topper and frosted the whole thing in chocolate butter-cream.
What I failed to realize was that butter-cream is not really meant for finishing.
It tastes great but just doesn't look so nice.
I had also planned on putting a big chocolate S on the top in front of the cute little mini cake bunting I made.
Unfortunately the S didn't co-operate and was therefore placed laying down on the top instead of standing upright like I had envisioned.

So the cake didn't look the way it did in my head, but you know what...

Sam loved it anyways, and that's all that matters.

Finally, a ticker tape quilt finish!

I know my last post said I was going to show more party pics, but I haven't had time to go through all the photos and edit them yet... soon though, soon...

In the meantime enjoy these photos of the finally finished ticker tape quilt!!!!

I can't believe it's done!, for those who missed this post, I've been working on this quilt since October for Sam's first Christmas. I obviously didn't get it finished in time, but it made a lovely first birthday gift!

Some of my fancy embroidery skills in use...

A close up of the front...click on it for a larger view.

I even love the back!!

And here's a couple close ups...

I could post so many more close ups... but I'll restrain myself.

It's only been washed once and the edges are already fraying so nicely... I can't wait until it's been done a few more times and they really soften up.
I should have gotten a nice close up of the binding, it looks so good... thanks to my wonderful Mom who did all the painstaking hand stitching so it would be finished for Sam's Birthday... You're the best Mom!!

Stay tuned for my next quilting adventure, when I try hexies for the first time!

Happy Birthday Sammy!!

Just a quick post to wish my little guy a happy first birthday!

We spent most of his birthday on Friday preparing for the big party on Saturday, and all of Saturday before the party finishing the things we didn't get done on Friday...
So needless to say, it's ten o'clock and I'm exhausted and going to bed...
Full birthday post with more pics hopefully tomorrow!
But before I go, I leave you all with this shot...

And a giant thanks to my Mom for all your hard work and help getting ready for the party, I couldn't have done it with out you...
and another to my little sis for all your help as well, and all the horsey rides for Sam to keep him occupied so I could get stuff done!

You guys rock!!
